In the future, more travelers will seek out hotels in tropical locations where they can go offline.

And these places won't be just a box with a beautiful spa, according to hip hotelier Chip Conley, creator of San Francisco-based Joie de Vivre Hotels.

"While you're there, it's not just about being pampered. Somehow, it must speak to your soul. It sounds awfully California, San Francisco, but I already see 50-, 60-year-olds who have a lot of money and want to re-orient their life. They want to be away from any devices because somehow the devices have taken over our lives."
