Their assessment was based on a number of factors: past experience with the recovery of tourism in the wake of similar disruptions, Egypt’s strong drawing power, the psychology of the American traveler, and even the nature of current unrest in Egypt.
Once the unrest settles down, tourism to the land of the sphinx is likely to recover in a reasonable amount of time, sources told Travel Market Report.
“Having been in the business since 1970, I have seen ups and downs in the Middle East, including war, and it always comes back. Once things settle down, people will start returning to Egypt,” said Susan Weissberg, president and CEO of Wyllys Professional Travel in Coral Gables, Fla., and longtime Middle East specialist.
“You can’t hold people back from Egypt,” Weissberg said.
